I am 53yr old female for last 4 weeks i can't seem to empty my bladder some times. How can i finally empty it? I have no pain or burning and urine almost looks clear as water there is no leakage. It just wont empty.

I have had 4 children the youngest is 23yrs i eat healthy and exercise i recently have had back trouble due to lifting table but that is getting better. i recently started having a small tub of ACTIVIA yoghurt everyday other wise nothing else has changed. My urine is very clear and doesn't hurt to got to toilet. Everytime i drink minutes later i need to go to the toilet. My stomach feels very tight til i go but i cant empty my bladder. I haven't had sex for 13yrs so it's not connected to that.

Our expert answered:

Hello Charmaine,
Thanks for your enquiry.

Generally if you cannot empty your bladder generally health professionals look for obstruction and or contractile issues.

Our recommendation is that you will benefit from seeing either a GP for Urodynamic studies or your Local Continence Advisor. Either should be attached to your Hospital or Community Health centre.
